Coordination Groups
Once a child has been seen either for a screening assessment or a full assessment, attendance at a coordination group may be recommended. These groups use activities to help improve various motor skills. Balance; spatial awareness; postural control, and ball skills are all included. Using gym balls, balance boards and various other equipment, children learn to plan and organise their movements more effectively and improve their skills, while gaining confidence in their own ability.
The group includes activities for both gross and fine motor skills.
Drawing, construction, theraputty, cutting and sticking tasks as well as playing games to improve visual perception and visual-motor integration, are all included in the session.
The children in the group are monitored and the activities changed weekly to challenge and improve their skills.
The group has a maximum of six children and two staff - An Occupational Therapist and a helper.
This group runs on a Saturday morning at Claygate Youth Club.
