About The HavenMarguerite E Durham, the owner and Principal Occupational Therapist has been qualified for over 19 years. During the first months of her training, her youngest son was diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty, and her training enabled her to help her son. Since qualifying in 1992 she has worked extensively in the field of special needs children both in the NHS and private settings. Starting her career in a School for Children with Speech and Language Disorders and then moving to the NHS for the next ten years, while continuing to manage a small case-load of private patients. During this time while gaining experience in many conditions she attended various courses and post graduate training in techniques such as Sensory Integration and Bobath. She is an ABT Listening Programme Provider and most recently attended training on 'The Alert Programme' and 'Primitive and Postural Reflexes'. During the ten years with the NHS she devised 'TOPS', Teacher and Occupational Therapy Programme for Schools, which has received excellent feedback from teachers.
However, her concern has long been the continually growing NHS waiting lists for children with special needs and learning difficulties to receive Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
In October 2007 she left the NHS to focus on being both the Occupational Therapist for The Moat School in Fulham, (for children with Dylexia) and to open The Haven. A centre that would combine not only conventional therapies but also give parents information on alternative therapies.
Together with a Cranial Osteopath, Richard Mays who specialises in working with
children, they have come together to put their professional caring and therapeutic skills into starting The Haven offering therapy to children, and support to families.
We are committed to providing therapy to all children, making it affordable, and effective, and offering a service that is non-profit making while working towards charitable status.
